Headaches have various causes and triggers. Find out how easily headaches can be prevented by following Ayurvedic Treatments for Severe Headache.

People who suffer with severe headache often know that it is a nightmare, as they cannot concentrate on his daily routine while experiencing the pain. There are many types of headaches like Sinus head ache, Tension headache, Migraine headache etc. that are commonly identified. Headache can be an associated symptom rather than a disease. It depends on the aggravating factors or the triggers. Likewise, Sinus headaches are caused due to vitiation of Kapha dosha; due to ingestion of very heavy, fatty, cold foods and drinks, sedentary lifestyle with less amount of exercise, exposure to environmental toxins that lead to vitiation of doshas. Tension headaches are caused due to predominant Vata dosha. Causes can include mental and emotional stress, eating and sleeping at different times each day, improper diet, irregular digestion, constipation, inadequate sleep, eyestrain caused by computer use. Migraine headaches are caused due to Pitta-Vata imbalance. Causes may include the accumulation of digestive toxins; exposure to environmental pollution and toxins found in food, air and water; and excess stress as expressed in anger, frustration, and mood swings. Conditions like sinusitis, anemia, constipation, insomnia, high blood pressure, hunger, over work, severe strain to the eyes, emotional stress etc. can lead to this condition.

When pain strikes we think about the quick relief to go back to the normal life. The only solution for headache in modern medicine is the persistent use of pain killers just to suppress the pain for time being and moreover makes the person dependent and addicted to these chemical pills. The continued use of such medications may damage the system, and at the same time cannot provide long term or permanent relief to the sufferer. The constant use of painkillers alone is highly discouraged, instead the root cause of such persistent headaches need to be evaluated first. Ayurveda, the ancient science aims at diagnosing the symptoms/disease correctly and treating the root cause rather than just trying to suppress the symptoms.

Ayurveda defines Headache as Shirashoola. Since the improper digestion is the root cause of most of the headaches which in turn aggravates body humors and emerges as body toxins, the accumulation and spread of these toxins lead to the blockage in the energy/channel, which is the main root cause of the disease manifestation. Hence, planned regular daily routine (dinacharya) along with the meditation as well as the planned therapies (panchakarma) advised by the Ayurveda physician helps to manage  headaches. Dinacharya, the daily regimen (lifestyle) if followed correctly, Herbal preparations administered, will balance the doshas, and restore or correct the digestive function. Ayurveda believes in cleansing the body from within to eradicate the root cause and provide a definite treat and relief from the symptoms as compared to the effect of pain killers that provide a temporary relief. Panchakarma helps in elimination of the toxins by correcting vitiated deep sited doshas and thus maintaining their equilibrium thereby eradicating the root cause. The digestion is corrected and blockage in the channel (manovaha srotas ) is relieved and patient gets long term relief from the headache.
